My name is Grace Blessing, a 26 year old Ugandan British, female, spoken word poet.
Poetry is an art form that allows deep conversations to take place in a way that sheds light on every aspect of life, encouraging difficult conversations to be considered, with it’s thought provoking nature. I believe poetry creates room for different perspectives to be valued and showcased in a way that feels safe and harmonious.
My piece Unrecognised Treasure was formed because I noticed how easy it’s become to compare lifestyles with what you don’t have on media platforms in this digital age. Snippets of a moment that we place so much value on despite not being able to see the bigger picture, distracts us from the unrecognised treasure we have in our own lives. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, in other words.
